The new owner is a real estate agent with her practice in Montclair. How she can sleep at night after raising rents up to 67% is beyond me, especially after I heard neighbor Debra Arbuckle's description of the building's gaping maintenance needs. You don't increase rents before providing the added value that such increases would have to represent....(Wasn't she supposed to take ethics courses before she was awarded her license?)
This owner is, indeed, a classic poster child for rent stabilization or controls. The current system has failed too many renters over the 15 years I have lived in Alameda.
